Effective evaluation measures how, and to what extent, a programme or project was successful in reaching its goals. This module will focus on understanding the key terminology of monitoring and evaluation and applying results-based management principles. You will learn how to develop a theory of change, a logical framework and a monitoring framework.

In this module, students learn to design effective monitoring frameworks for programmes. Key skills include interpreting components for monitoring framework development and developing and explaining the implementation of these frameworks.

A well-designed M&E system describes in detail all the processes of collecting data, the tools to be used as well as allocating responsibilities to the different tasks. This module will ensure that individuals have the skills and competencies to identify and develop the key monitoring components of an intervention.

This module addresses the principles of data quality management within monitoring. Students learn to summarise data quality principles, identify risks to data quality, prepare for routine data quality assessments, and interpret ethical aspects of monitoring data.

It covers determining whether an intervention is ready for evaluation, developing the evaluation scope and questions, preparing terms of reference, managing an evaluation team, practising ethical principles, and selecting appropriate evaluation methodology.
